When IKEA gets a little old and I’m craving variety and inspiration, the first place I’ll pay a visit is the secondhand store, Mawakeb Alajer.

If it’s not the only thrift store in the city, it’s at least the most popular. The two story villa is a treasure trove of unique Arab furniture and decor, cheap English novels, and deeply discounted designer clothing. I’m talking Prada suits, Armani baby onesies, and Versace sweaters. Not quite the same inventory as the Goodwills I frequented in the US. 😅

Ezra has been shopping there with me since he was a wee one (that’s him in the carrier) and he has become friends with the lovely ladies who work there.

The best part is that Mawakeb is a charity-driven business. The money they make goes back into the community and they work in tandem with an orphan care organization. They’re also the only place I know that accepts recyclables. ♻️ They’ve got my wholehearted support!
