We have been married 6 years and this is our 6th home together – 3rd in Jeddah. We’re not planning on moving again. 😆

Our apartment building is the tallest tan one on the right. The first floor is a drive-in garage area and we have the 5th and 6th floor. 🏠
In the city there aren’t traditional homes with a plot of land and sidewalks like small town America. For the common folk, we can choose between an apartment, a villa, or a compound.

When Sean accepted a pharmacy job here the hospital offered us a home in a compound. Most expats who work at schools or hospitals have the opportunity to live in one. They are like a gated community with very strict security and casually surrounded by 10ft high concrete walls. The one we had access to also had a restaurant, grocery store, several swimming pools, a gym, and a big park inside. Compounds are nice because the rules are more lax – I wouldn’t have to wear an abaya, the grocery stays open during prayer time, and they have an entertainment event schedule. However we didn’t like the “bubble” feeling of the gated community and the security measures that prevented friends from just stopping by. So we opted out and the hospital gave us a stipend for finding our own place. 👍🏼

Thankfully we found a place that doesn’t even make us miss compound life. We hope our home is an inviting and comfortable space – where our kids feel safe and free and also where friends can stop by anytime and make themselves at home. 💕
