This photo was taken 5 days after our arrival in country. We were wandering around random neighborhoods on foot searching for “for rent” signs. 🏠 We had no car, no idea where we wanted to live, and no Arabic to negotiate. We eventually found a place to look at but when we told the owner we weren’t interested, he still insisted we join him in his home next door for coffee. He ecstatically introduced us to his family and Skyped us in with his daughter who was living in Virginia. Then he invited us to stay for dinner. A feast materialized and we ended up spending several hours at this stranger’s home being treated like royalty.
This wasn’t an isolated incident – we’ve gone to look at furniture posted online and ended up spending an hour with the seller, walking away with no furniture but full stomachs. ☕️🍰
I try to live with a loose grip on our things bc all we have belongs to God anyway. However, people here have taught me that I can definitely be more generous with my time and energy.
