What do I wear in Saudi on the regular? That was one of my biggest curiosities before moving here, and a question I’m asked all the time. I created this series of TikToks to show exactly what I wear for certain activities: grocery shopping, meeting friends at the mall, working out at the gym, etc.
Although some women don’t wear abayas anymore, an overwhelming majority of them do, so I continue to do so out of respect for the culture, a desire not to stand out more than I already do, and because sometimes they’re just easier to throw on than putting effort into looking presentable.
For Part 3, when I show what I wear to “blend in,” let’s be clear that any Saudi would be able to tell I’m an expat by the way I’m wearing the abaya/hijab/niqab. I’m not fooling anyone, I know, but if I wanted to at least be an “anonymous expat,” that would be my look.
