Gathered Around the Kitchen Table

Although we have a nice dining room, most meals are eaten around this little kitchen table. I love our kitchen for the space it has, the huge bright window over the kitchen sink, and the inoffensive tiling (much of the tiling here is very eclectic – our last kitchen tile design was a confusing combo of coffee cups and seashells, paired with bright red cabinets).

There’s an okay amount of cabinet space in the kitchen, but we like the ease and efficiency of this wall/shelf pantry we installed. It gives us the feeling of being in a cramped New York apartment, which we like for some reason. 😆 And I got to have fun with a labeler and storage containers.

All walls are concrete here so drilling is an ear-splitting workout, especially for shelves with multiple brackets. I miss the days of hanging frames with a couple swift hammer taps on a nail. 🔨 Now if we want to hang anything, the kids need to be corralled into another room while we hammer drill into the wall, spraying concrete particles everywhere, and shove in a wall anchor in order to finally put in a screw. The whole building knows if someone decides to hang something. God help us if we measure incorrectly.

Our next kitchen project is to find a garbage disposal. They aren’t common here and we’re doubtful we can find a quality one that will last, but we will give it our best shot!
